What is Upanyanam – A brief about the ritual: Upanayanam ceremony is a significant rite of passage in Hinduism. It marks the initiation of a young boy into formal education and the study of the Vedas. This ceremony involves the investiture of the sacred thread (yajnopavita) on the young boy. This symbolizes his readiness to pursue spiritual knowledge. It is also known as the Sacred Thread Ceremony. Poonool or Poonal ceremony are synonymous to Upanayanam Ceremony.
